The Kenton County Sheriff’s Office at the Independence Courthouse (5272 Madison Pike, Independence, KY) is reopening on July 1st for vehicle inspections, CCDW, and Sheriff tax related services.The Kenton County Government Center (1840 Simon Kenton Way, Covington, KY 41011) is open.
The Kenton County Sheriff’s Office has introduced a secured DROP BOX at the Kenton County Government Center in Covington (1840 Simon Kenton Way). The marked box stands to the left of the entrance doors. Although the secured box is monitored by video 24 hours a day, the Kenton County Sheriff’s Office cannot be responsible for CASH put into the DROP BOX. Items should be in a sealed envelope marked to the office’s attention. Please include a contact telephone number in case the office has questions.

Unpaid 2019 property and tangible taxes are now being collected by the County Clerk’s Office.
VEHICLE INSPECTIONS (currently only in Covington; Independence reopening July 1st)
We are still encouraging those who need a vehicle inspection to follow the steps below in advance to their visit to one of our locations:
- Email a front copy of the original out-of-state title with the driver’s license of the individual who will be presenting the vehicle positioned under the vehicle identification number. The email address is: inspections@kentoncounty.org.
- Please also add a notation in the email subject line of either "Independence" or "Covington" to indicate which location you will be bringing the vehicle.
- Once parked in a vehicle inspection spot, the individual should call our office at 859-392-1800 (Covington) or 859-392-1882 (Independence). Our inspector will pull the paperwork and meet the individual outside at their vehicle for inspection. They will check the original title, driver’s license, and collect the $5 CASH inspection fee as the driver exits the vehicle.

Other processes pertaining to court process paperwork, such as mental health pickups, or domestic service of process please call (859) 392-1800 during office scheduled hours. The office is continuing to offer limited person exchanges pertaining to Carry Concealed Deadly Weapons (CCDW) Licenses. Please call (859) 392-1800 during office scheduled hours for additional options. Many services pertaining to CCDW can be handled online.
